It’s the real-life version of the game”Ticket to Ride”, this Amtrak USA Rail Pass. When I realized that I’d need to go back to Minneapolis for another training with ReachGlobal this summer, and also that I had some friends I really wanted to visit on the east coast, I got to thinking. How could I travel in an affordable way? Plane tickets get expensive, and after just driving over 4,000 miles, would I really want to drive more?
That’s when I discovered the Amtrak USA rail pass. 30 days, 12 segments, endless possibilities. A friend and I mapped it all out, the routes and lines. My excitement grew into something nearly uncontainable as we realized that this pipe dream could actually be a reality with ease.
So, here goes: Denver to Chicago to Minneapolis. Minneapolis, Chicago over to NYC, down to Washington D.C. and Maryland. Down the coast to Savannah, Georgia, back up to Charlotte, North Carolina, and back over to Colorado.
19 states, 30 days.
So, just like you told me about the great places to stop on my road trip, tell me about this one too! I want suggestions for Minneapolis, Chicago, New York, and any cities along my route. I do have limited stops I can make with this ticket, but in my planning, I still have some wiggle room left. Tell me, if you could go on the train across the country, what would you go see? If you have taken the Amtrak, what were your favorite parts? What should I be careful for? How should I plan ahead?
